The Carry Ons are as much part of the British way of life as something like Fish and Chips or Seaside Postcards, and postcard humour is the underlying influence in the Carry Ons.

Started at the end of the 1950's who would have thought that William Hartnall and Bob Monkhouse would start something to stay with us for so long.  Kenneth Williams as a young fresh faced intellectual who was the love interest.

With the double entendre humour just this side of acceptable (except for the later ones), even the kids watch them, although they may not get all the jokes.
