Vaughn Gets Chase-tised

Vince Vaughn has received a public lambasting from fellow comedian Chevy Chase.

Chase, who probably hasn't done a decent film since Fletch (1985), recently commented on Vaughn after seeing him in a trailer for his new film The Break Up and likened the multi-million dollar actor to a "refrigerator repairman".

Chase rebuked suggestions that Vaughn was a modern day version of himself to the extent of claiming that he had never heard of him before the trailer.

Chase said to the New York Post, "Recently, I saw a commercial with, is it Nicole Kidman? No, no Jennifer, what's her name, from 'Friends'. And some guy. I had never seen him. I don't know who the f**k he is. He looks like some refrigerator repairman."

Chase's last five films (including Karate Dog and Doogal) have all received extremely limited releases, restricted mainly to the US. The only one that has managed to reach these fair shores is Ellie Parker (starring Naomi Watts) which, apparently, was released yesterday (14th July 2006). Anyone? Anywhere?

Chase may be telling the truth, it may be a fit of jealousy or, more likely, he might just be having a joke with the journalist. But let's have a look at some maths.

The Break Up has (up to 2nd July 2006) grossed $111,720,225 in the US alone whereas Fletch raked in an impressive $46,700,000. Of course, allowing for inflation, the increase in ticket prices, decimalisation and the price of bread makes Chase absolutely correct. Vaughn is, under no circumstances, equatable to him.
