The long
awaited follow-up to Dreamworks Studio's animated hit 'Shrek' opens in US
cinemas today. It's uncommon for a sequel to be as popular as the orginal, and in
this case it has a lot to live up to, with the original "Shrek" being hilarious
for both children and adults alike.
But it appears the lovable green ogre (voiced by Mike Myers) has pulled
it off, with critics saying that this second film is just as funny and engaging
as its predecessor. The style of comedy is very similar to the first,
paying homage and poking fun at a whole host of other films, including send-ups
of Spider-Man, The Wizard of Oz, The Lord of the
Rings,Charlie's Angels and From Here to Eternity, not to mention a
whole host of Disney animations.
The impressive cast list sees the return of Eddie Murphy as Shrek's
neurotic Donkey friend, Antonio Banderas as 'Puss in Boots', and Cameron Diaz as
Princess Fiona.
Shrek 2 is widely expected to be the box-office family blockbuster of the
summer. It will open in the UK on 2nd July 2004.
