It’s no secret that
Johnny Depp modeled himself on Rolling Stones’ guitarist, Keith Richards, for
his part as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the
Black Pearl. And it probably wasn’t entirely
unknown that the aged rocker was approached by Depp to play the role of
Sparrow’s father in one of the forthcoming sequels but due to touring schedules
he was unable to commit.
However, it seems
that with a bit of sweet talking, Richard’s is seriously considering squeezing a
cameo in around the tour. New pirate bad-guy to the franchise, Bill Nighy, (who
is to play Davy Jones) stated, “Keith Richards will appear in Pirates of the
Caribbean 2 or 3. I’m not
sure which one, because they are being filmed back to
back."
Depp was overjoyed
with the news and said, "You talk about a dream come true, you get to be a
pirate with Keith Richards, does it get any better than that?"
Nighy went on to
reveal that his role seems to be largely as a stand-in for special effects
house, ILM, to weave their digital magic and said, “I’m so computer generated
that you might have trouble spotting me.”
Pirates of the
Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest is due for a Summer 2006
release.
