Ricky Gervais' hob-nobbing with the stars in his new series of
Extras has obviously served him well as he has been included in the
cast of a new film by Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy.
Levy is probably better known as the put-upon dad from American Pie
and Guest was simple rocker Nigel Tufnel from This Is Spinal Tap which
he also co-wrote. The pair are responsible for some of the funniest mock
documentaries ever: A Mighty Wind, Best In Show and
Waiting For Guffman.
Their latest offering, For Your Consideration, is another mockumentary that follows a small film crew while they
make their independent film and then hear rumours that they are to be receiving nominations for
Oscars. It is going to be a direct dig at the entire awards process and will
co-star many of their regular actor pals including Bob Balaban, Michael McKean,
Catherine O'Hara and Parker Posey.
For Your Consideration is currently in production and due to be
released early 2006.
