It's Good News for Wallace and Gromit this weekend, but it's
Bad News for Aardman Animations.
The new Wallace and Gromit film went straight in at number one in the US
chart over the weekend, and promises to do equally well over here. The Curse of
the Were-Rabbit (delightfully tagged with 'Something Wicked This Way Hops')
opens nationwide this week.
However, Aardman Animations have suffered a great loss as a fire has
destroyed their studios in Bristol.
The damage includes original props, sets and storyboards from everything
Aardman has done, all the way back to Morph, Creatures Comforts, Chicken Run and
the various Wallace and Gromit films. The films themselves are stored elsewhere,
and have not been damaged.
Aardman co-founder Dave Sproxton said that a ready-to-go exhibition on
Wallace and Gromit had also been destroyed in the fire. Fortunately, no humans
were hurt.
