More nominations for everyone's favourite animated characters as Wallace
and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit gets four nominations at the Empire
Awards.
The awards are the only movie prizes voted for exclusively by the British
public, and after great sucess last year UK comedy star Bill Bailey will be
hosting the event. Expect more jokes about hobbits and Klingon motivational
speakers.
Wallace
and Gromit are nominated for two of the biggest prizes - Best British Film
and Best Director.
Johnny Depp picks up a nomination for Best Actor for Charlie and the
Chocolate Factory, with the Hitchhiker's
Guide to the Galaxy another comedy film nominated in Best British Film.
King Kong leads the nominations with five, including Best Film and Best
Director, although of particular notice for some fans will be the newly
introduced Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film award. Nominations are King Kong; Reveng of
the Sith; Serenity; The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe; and Harry Potter and
the Goblet of Fire.
Empire's editor-in-chief said that "It is no longer enough to merely say that
the nominations for the awards reflect the opinions of Empire readers rather
than those of any industry body. In fact, this outstanding and diverse line-up
is the only shortlist to celebrate the best of 2005, films that were not only
widely seen by the ordinary public but cherished and remembered some months
later.
"While the Oscars and the Baftas rightly celebrate the narrow set of prestige
movies released during 'awards season', our show is designed to recognise movies
of all genres, echoing the way ordinary filmgoers talk about
movies."
