The US box office is a sure fire prediction of how future films are
going to fare over here and it's not surprising to see that the latest Pixar
extravaganza has given everone else a run for their money.
Cars (directed by John Lasseter) is the story of a cocky stock-car
on his way to a big race who discovers the true meaning of friendship in the
small town of Radiator Springs.
It stars the voices of Owen Wilson, Paul Newman, Bonnie Hunt, Cheech Marin
and George Carlin amongst the usual eclectic bunch of actors called in for these
films. In its opening weekend it took a hefty $62,800,000 and knocked the
Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn rom-com The Break Up from the top
spot. They pulled in $20.5 M for their second weekend, which totals $74 M
overall.
The Break Up sees Aniston and Vaughn as a couple who have decided to
make an end to their long-term relationship but neither of them is willing to
move out of their apartment. So they begin a battle of mental warfare against
each other trying to get the other to leave.
The Break Up is released her on 21st July whereas Cars is
due out on 28th.
