Well, sort of. Dreamworks have announced that Eric Idle is the latest
name to join the cast of Shrek The Third, lending his vocal talents to
the part of Merlin the magician. Whether or not his voice will actually share
any screen time with that of co-ex-Python, John Cleese is unknown. Cleese, of
course, returns to voice the role of King Harold, the frog-king of Far Far
Away.
The amount of British talent to the film is seriously starting to outweigh
the American's with co-stars Dame Julie Andrews and Rupert Everett reprising
their roles of Prince Charming and Queen Lillian (not in that order) and Ian
McShane coming on board as Captain Hook.
The story for this part is that Shrek becomes king of Far Far Away but
doesn't want the job so goes out to find a more suitable king. In the meantime
Fiona has to prevent a coup and defends the kingdom with the help of Cinderella,
Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Rapunzel.
Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas return and are
joined by Justin Timberlake playing a rebellious King Arthur.
At least with another Brit in the cast means producers won't feel the need to
re-dub another character in a transatlantic translation like they did with
Shrek
2. Although I don't hold out much luck for Regis Philbin's chances of
keeping his voice in the British version.
