The U.S. movie blockbuster Bruce
Almighty is the latest film to
be banned in Malaysia on religious grounds. The film, in which Jim Carrey plays
a character who is asked to do the job of God and run the world for a few
days, has been deemed inappropriate by a Maylasian government minister. The
minitster considered the film to be extremely offensive to Muslims, unusual
for a government that is generally famed for its sense of humour and
easy-going attitude. Since Maylasia is a predominantly Muslim country the
minister has said in a statement "We cannot equate ourselves with God almighty
even as a joke."
Maylasia has a track record of banning American films,
and has previously banned "Austin Powers", "DareDevil" and "Zoolander". It
is also rumoured that they limited the cinema showings of StarWars Episode II
after they discovered that R2-D2 is actually Jewish.
As is custom in many mainstream religions, in the interest of feigning
offence at any opinion that does not completely agree with our own views, we at
Funny.co.uk would like to ask for the banning of "Rocky IV", "Groundhog Day" and
any film in which a cop has a sidekick who is a dog.
