Sacha Baron Cohen, creator of Ali G, has been approached by Dreamworks
Pictures to star in a remake of the French farce "Le Diner de Cons". The
story revolves around a group of friends who compete to invite the stupidest
guest to a weekly dinner party.
It is the same original story that has been adapted for the stage as "See You
Next Tuesday" and opens in the West End in october 2003, featuring Nigel Havers
and Father Ted star Aardal O'Hanlon.
The movie version will be retitled "Dinner For Schmucks" with Cohen appearing
as one of the unsuspecting "schmuck" dinner guests.
Producer Walter Parkes said: "The trick with a talent like Sacha's is to find
a vehicle rich enough to accommodate his unique ability to create characters,
and we think we have that with Dinner for Schmucks."
With a book, a French play, an English play and now a movie version, we can
expect Playstation and Gameboy Advanced versions to be announced
shortly.
