If the mere fact that all ten series of hit US sitcom Friends is available in
a variety of boxed sets is not enough for you, fear not. It is about to be
relaunched on iTunes in the USA.
Warner Brothers has signed an agreement with Apple to sell a selection of its
classic shows online, starting with Season One episodes of Friends at $1.99 a
time.
The president of Warner Brothers Digital Distribution said the move was "an
important step" in making the company's material available "across the widest
selection of platforms and devices".
American network started this trend by making episodes of Desperate
Housewives and Lost available, and now it seems that this could become a
significant new market in the sales of TV entertainment.
Other programmes set to become available through iTunes include the
Flintstones, the Jetsons and, intruigingly, Babylon 5.
Some novelties may see the light of day, including a pilot episode of a TV
series based on DC Comics Aquaman character.
