Former time-lord Tom Baker has tipped stand-up comedian Eddie Izzard
to be the new Dr. Who. He claimed in an interview with Radio Five Live
that Izzard has already secured the part, although in response the BBC
have said that no final decision has been made and dismissed Baker's comments as
"speculation".
The new series of the cult sci-fi show, produced by BBC Wales
and written Russel T Davies, creator of "Queer as Folk", is set to return
in 2005 and has already been the subject of much speculation with comedian Alan
Davies and actor Richard E Grant given the best odds down the betting
shop.
Baker described Izzard as "Mysterious and strange" with and "Alien quality"
that would make him ideal for the part. Perhaps the BBC could save on
actors fee's by incorporating a freak tardis dimensional rift related
accident into the opening episode causing the doctor to be merged with his
assistant and then randomly mixing the two character's costumes throughout the
series? Um... Where was I going with this?
