The Channel 4 comedy series Phoenix Nights has become the quickest selling DVD of a TV series (...ever!), selling 160,000 copies in it's first week. This places it second only to The Matrix Reloaded (you remember, the one where Keanu Reeves looks cool and doesn't say much) in the weekly DVD sales charts.

Previously, the record was held by The Office. Interestingly, the Office Series 2 DVD is out next week, and thus the stage is set for an epic confrontation as Ricky Gervais seeks to reclaim his throne!

Still, it is an interesting clash, and certainly counters the current argument that todays comedies are not match for the behemoths of the past. Still, most of them are available on DVD if you look hard enough.
