It has taken a long time, but it looks as though
Angus Deayton will be returning to our screens. Fans have missed their
regular instalments of the comedy presenter, who has been off of BBC television
since a scandal involving sex, drugs, hotels and dum'n'bass music saw him fired
from his role as presenter of 'Have I Got News For You'. He also
lost his sitcom role as the long sufferring nextdoor neighbour when Victor
Meldrew was run-over in the climax of the long running comedy series 'One Foot
in the Grave' (although we suspect this probably had less to do with Drum'n'Bass
music or Sex).
Now it has been revealed that Deayton has landed a role in Stephen Fry's new
BBC sitcom 'Absolute Power'. He will play a Downing Street Press Secretary
called Colin Priestley, who advises a Minister to reveal he is gay to
save his career.
In addition to this, it appears that he is now planning a new TV role which
sees him returning to his more familiar territory presenting a new comedy quiz
game. The show will be called 'Bognor Or Bust', and (perhaps as can be
predicted from the title) will feature either the winner or loser (we're not
sure which) winning a trip to Bognor.
Few details have been released about plans for the new comedy quiz show,
but a pilot is being recorded in London on 12th November.
