Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston are to star in a new BBC One family sitcom
called 'Mad About Alice.' The show is based on a couple who are
divorced. Despite no longer living together, Doug (Theakston) and Alice
(Holden) remain in close contact due to joint custody of their nine-year old son
Joe, played by Billy Hill.
Speaking about the show co-creator and producer Sue Birbeck said: "I think
the essence of the show is that it combines the ups and downs of a romantic
comedy with the broader fun of a family sitcom."
We wait to see whether the new sitcom offers a refreshing and plentiful goldmine
of original comedy, or is just another dull, middle of the road, formulaic,
suicide-spree-inducing, six episodes of nothingness. It may
just be my cynicism or over indulgence of mince pies talking, but I
already suspect the latter.
Mad About Alice starts on BBC One on 23rd January 2004.
