It appears that British Civil Servants are not the only people who can
cause disruption through strikes. The actors who supply the voices of the
characters in The Simpsons have walked out in a dispute over pay.
The voice of Homer Simpson, Dan Castellaneta, joined his fellow actors - Hank
Azaria, Harry Shearer, Yeardley Smith, Julie Kavner and Nancy Cartwright - in
failing to show up for script readings.
Their 3 year contracts have recently expired, and they
are demanding a huge 188% payrise, which would take them from $125,000 (£68,000)
an episode to $360,000 (£195,000). A similar dispute occurred in
1998 when the actors were earning just $30,000 an episode.
