For the first time in the series' history, "The Simpsons" creator, Matt
Groening, is to play a role in his own show. While his cartoon image has
appeared in the animated sitcom from time to time (such as framed on the wall of
Comic Book Guy's shop) this will be the first time in 16 series he has
actually had a speaking role.
The episode, "My Big Fat Geek Wedding", will be shown in the US on sunday and
revolves around the forthcoming marriage of Principal Skinner and teacher Edna
Krabappel. The wedding is called off at the last minute when Skinner gets
cold feet.
Edna, on the rebound, runs off with Comic Book Guy who takes her to a Sci-Fi
convention where they find Matt Groening, playing himself, signing
autographs.
