Despite Ricky
Gervais nearly missing out on this year's BAFTAs, in a
David Brent style administration error, he won the Best Comedy Performance award
for the third year running for his role in The
Office Christmas Special
. He was up against Office buddy Martin
Freeman, and Matt Lucas and David
Walliams
for their parts in Little
Britain .
Double joy for Gervais as the show also took the Best Situation Comedy award
- again, for the third year on the trot. Also nominated had been
Hardware (Freeman must be a bit gutted), Marion and Geoff, and Peep
Show.
Jonathon Ross had a good night too winning both his nominations for Best
Entertainment Performance and The Lew Grade Award for Entertainment Programme or
Series. He beat Stephen Fry for QI, and Boris Johnson and Paul Merton
(last year's winner) both for Have I got News For You in the
Entertainment Performance and; Ant & Dec's Saturday Night
Takeaway, Have I Got News For You and Pop Idol for the
Lew Grade Award.
Julie Walters won the BAFTA for Best Actress for her portrayal of The
Wife of Bath; beating Gina McKee, Helen Mirren and Miranda Richardson.
Little Britain took the Best Comedy Programme or Series award.
Beating Bo Selecta, Creature Comforts: Cats or Dogs? and
Double Take.
