It's been a few years since anything new from Chris Morris has graced
our screens, his last offering being the highly controversial Brass Eye
Paedophilia Special which, in 2001, attracted a record number of complaints
from over two thousand Daily Mail readers.
But the wait could nearly be over. For most of us it's the wait for some
exciting new comedy to grace our screens. For a few others it's the wait to
utilise their angriest handwriting and finally make use of
that Country Cottage style writing set (just 25 tokens collected every
Sunday guaranteeing entry into the £50,000 prize draw) which
has been sat in the mahogany bureau for the last six months.
Details about the new show are thin on the ground. Insiders
expect it to be broadcast before the end of 2004 but a Channel 4
spokesperson would say no more than that they "are working with Chris Morris on
a long-term project", while Morris' collaborator, Charlie Brooker, simply
commented that "It's got narrative elements."
He later went on to add: "It's fairly pointless to say any more because
everything could change, but it's probably not going to be quite what people
would expect."
A pilot episode, produced by Talkback and Zeppotron, is thought to have been
filmed last summer and apparently takes a different approach to the current
affairs parody style that Morris is best known for.
