A couple of weeks ago Funny.co.uk reported that the actors who provide the
voices for The Simpsons had walked out on a pay
dispute. Just to recap what had happened, for those of you who
can't be bothered to click on the link above or don't have an index finger on
your right hand, the actors who provide the voices for the characters on the
Simpsons were not happy with the pay deal they had been offered to begin
recording for the 16th series of the show.
The actors - who include Dan Castellaneta (pictured, left), Hank Azaria,
Harry Shearer, Yeardley Smith, Julie Kavner and Nancy Cartwright - had failed to
show up for a script reading session because they wanted their pay increased
from around $125,000 an episode to around $360,000 an episode. (You know
how it is, you have to buy shoes for the kids, and petrol seems to be more
expensive these days, and don't get me started about the price of
Persil ).
But it now appears the dispute has been resolved. Just when it looked
like either the future of The Simpsons would be in question, or the actors would
be forced to harvest the organs of their own children in order to be able to
afford to put food on the table, a deal appears to have been reached.
Although no details have yet been released about the content of the deal ,we
know that the producers had considered the actors original claims to be
"extravagant", and that the actors have somewhat backed off from their demands
for a pay rise of over 180%.
Speaking about the deal Fox told Hollywood trade paper Variety: "We couldn't
be happier to have reached a multi-year deal with the enormously talented cast
of The Simpsons."
Production will now resume for the 16th (2004-05) Season of the
show.
