With ten series spanning a decade under it's belt, the hit sitcom
Friends last night aired it's last ever episode ever to an
estimated US audience of 50 million people. The figures make it
America's second most watched TV event of the year, with first place going
to something called the "SuperBowl".
We believe that this attracted so many viewers, 90 million in fact,
because it claimed to be football but actually turned out to be a load of men in body
armour and crash helmets, running around shouting numbers and looking for their
huts.
In New York city, where Friends is set, the one-hour finale was shown on a
giant screen in Times Square for the benefit of some 3000 gathered fans.
The episode, entitled The Last One, will be shown in the UK on Channel
4 at the end of May, so for those of you who don't want to know how it all ends,
stop reading now!
For those of you who don't mind knowing, here's a (very) brief summary of how
it all concludes:
- Monica and Chandler are at the hospital waiting for their adopted baby to
be born and it turns out they're getting twins.
- Rachel gets on a plane to go to her new job in Paris, despite Ross telling
her his feelings and begging her to stay. She then changes her mind,
gets off the plane and they end up together.
- No major surprised for Phoebe and Joey. The former is settling in to
married life with Mike and the latter gets a new chick and
duck.
