Ex-standup Catherine Tate has won one of the most prestigious
television industry awards. At the Banff Rockie awards last night Tate
took the honour for 'Best Comedy'. Her sketch show, which first
aired earlier this year on BBC2, beat off American competition from
nominees such as Frasier and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Tate also
saw off stiff competition from other British entries such as 'Hardware'
(starring Martin Freeman, from 'The Office'), and 'The Office Christmas
Special' (starring Martin Freeman, from 'Hardware'; along with some Gervais
chappy who we don't see at many awards ceremonies).
The TV show attracted around two million viewers when it was aired in
February and March.
The award ceremony is part of the Banff Television Festival, which is
celebrating its 25th Anniversary. The festival takes place
at Fairmont Banff Springs in the Canadian Rockies from June 13th -
17th, celebrating excellence in international television programming and
exploring the issues, challenges, creative and business opportunities in the
industry.
