With filming complete on his
first series of Extras, Ricky Gervais
is already looking ahead for potential guest stars for the next series.
The new show, written and
directed by The Office partnership of
Gervais and Stephen Merchant, is about Andy Millman (played by Gervais) who
gives up his day job to take up acting. Despite the efforts of him and his agent
(played by Merchant) he cannot get any big roles to the extent that he’s lucky
if he actually gets a speaking part and so his days are spent hanging around the
sets and green room with fellow bit-parters.
Gervais’s
main hook with this series is the appearance of real A-list celebrities he has
convinced to star alongside him to play comedy versions of themselves. This
first series co-stars Kate Winslet, Ben Stiller, Samuel L Jackson and Les Dennis
to mock themselves. Jude Law was also supposed to appear but had to pull out due
to pre-existing filming commitments inNew Orleans.
With the show due to air on BBC
Two later this month and speculation of a second series, Gervais stated, “We’ll
do one if people watch it. I think if we got Tom Cruise we’d do two.”
Unfortunately, he’s definitely not getting Clint Eastwood on board as he
recently turned down his invitation.
