TV listings magazine, Radio Times, has conducted a survey into the UK's
children's preferred televisual viewing.
Perhaps unsurprisingly (but a tad worrying) is top of the list favourite The
Simpsons. Slightly more concerning is their second place choice of Little
Britain.
Not only does the show air after the watershed and the British Board of Film
Classification certifies the DVD releases with a 15 rating but the magazine
research indicates that 280,000 10 to 15 year olds watched series two and then a
further 86,000 children aged between 4 and 9.
The Little Britain boys have been quick to try to quash any contention that
may be thrown their way when David Walliams stated, "it's great that they love
it."
He did specify that their intention was for the show to be for adults and
definitely not for children but explained that, "There’s always that element in
kids where they want to watch the naughty comedy that’s not for them."
Matt Lucas seemed slightly more aware of the social implications their
influence may have on young impressionable minds when he said, "Watching Little
Britain was affecting how the kids behaved in school. They were doing the
catchphrases and coming out with rude jokes."
So, no real change there then.
