Former UK comedy star Hugh Laurie (now turned Serious US-Based Actor)
has won a Golden Globe for his work in House, the American medical drama.
Hugh Laurie, who has also appeared in 101 Dalmations and Stuart Little, beat
off Keifer Sutherland (from 24) and Matthew Fox (from Lost) to win the award,
describing the experience as 'absolutely terrific'.
Other Brits to win last night included Rachel Weisz and Sir Anthony Hopkins,
who picked up a lifetime achievement award. Somewhat oddly, Sir Anthony said
"I've been around a long time but I never expected this." Surely lifetime
achievement awards are mostly for longevity? I believe one venerable comedian
said, on receiving such an award "Ah, it's the we're-glad-you're-not-dead-yet
Award."
Unfortunately, Dame Judi Dench and Keira Knightley both missed out in their
categories. But then, it's not like Dame Dench needs any more awards, and I'm
sure the very lovely Ms Knightley will have lots more
opportunities.
