It's the Baftas! As usual, there are plenty of awards to be won. Funny.co.uk
picks out the comedy based awards for special attention:
Best Actress - Anne-Marie Duff (Shameless) goes up against Gillian Anderson
(Bleak House), Lucy Cohu (The Queen's Sister) and Anna Maxwell Martin (Bleak
House). Shameless is a ratings hit, but will a comedy role win over the more
serious BBC fare?
In Best Entertainment Performance, Noel Edmonds scores a surprise
nomination alongside Jeremy Clarkson, Jack Dee adn Jonathan Ross. Anyone except
Clarkson for that one, please.
The Comedy Performance award is going to the BBC, with Catherine Tate, Ashley
Jensen (Extras), Peter Capaldi (The Thick of It) and Chris Langham (The Thick of
It) competing.
The Lew Grade Award for Entertainment Programme/Series is going to be very
hotly fought over, with Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, Have I Got News For
You, Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor all clashing.
In the mean time, Catherine Tate scores another nomination for Comedy
Programme or Series alongside Creature Comforts, Help (BBC 2) and Little Britain
(BBC 1 & 3). You'd have to honestly say that Little Britain looks set to
continue it's runaway success there.
Lastly, the sitcom award features Extras, Peep Show, The Thick of It and The
Worst Week of My Life. Notably, more recent sitcoms such as Hyperdrive and The
IT Crowd fail to get a mention.
We'd also like to point out that Doctor Who got a nomination for Best Drama
Series! Huzzah!
Winners announced in a ceremony, hosted by Davina McCall, on the 7th
May.
