Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the writers of South Park, have got themselves
into trouble again. However, given that this seems to be their main aim in life,
I'm sure they're not too bothered.
In the latest episode of the show, broadcast on US TV, they attack the Comedy
Central (the network that broadcasts South Park) for refusing to let them show
an image of the Prophet Muhammad. This follows on from the international riots
caused when a Danish newspaper published some caricatures of Muhammad.
The network statement said "In light of recent world events, we feel we made
the right decision."
The episode is built around the incident, and features Kyle trying to
persuade an executive at rival network Fox to air an episode of the cartoon
Family Guy that does feature an image of Muhammad.
"Either it's all okay, or none of it is," says Kyle. "Do the right
thing."
The executive chooses to display the image, but a caption appears reading
"Comedy Central have refused to broadcast an image of Muhammad on their
network".
It is followed by images of Christ defecating on President Bush and the
American Flag.
Incidentally, South Park won US Broadcasting's prestigious Peabody Prize last
week.
