Channel 4 is to spend a week in August running programmes on the theme of
offensive comedy.
Features include a documentary about the Monty Python film 'Life of Brian'
which was deemed blasphemous by some English local councils and banned before
it's release. The film shows a parallel story to that of Christ as the titular
Brian muddles his way through a series of mishaps, all in the usual Python
style.
The week will also include a profile of comedian Roy Chubby Brown and Hitler:
The Comedy Years will explore how the Nazi leader has provided material for
Spike Milligan, amongst others.
The World's Most Offensive Joke will look at jokes that "push the boundaries
of comedy". Presumably Billy Connolly will feature, alongside material inspired
by the death of Princess Diana and recent cartoons satirising the Prophet
Muhammad.
