Matt Lucas, UK comedy hotshot, star of Shooting Stars and of course Little
Britain, is to be the face of a £200m campaign to publicise the switch to
digital TV.
He is voicing a friendly robot called Digit Al (that's him in the picture)
who will be appearing in adverts to help everyone understand that your analogue
TV signal is going to be switched off by 2012.
Frankly, I think the makers of the Hitchhikers
Guide to the Galaxy film should be pleased their Marvin design was such a
strong influence on Al.
The advertising campaign is going on both terrestrial and digital TV, to help
the three out of ten people that aren't already digital in this country make the
change.
The ads involve Al interrupting 'iconic' Sony and Guiness adverts to tell
viewers about the change, and offering the website for Digital UK, the body in
charge of co-ordinating the whole thing.
There will also be a massive postal information push, because once the
changover happens in your area, a non-digital TV simply won't receive a signal
any more.
