The 2006 BAFTA awards were dished out last night at the Grosvenor House
Hotel, Park Lane, hosted by Davina McCall.
It was a year where the usual award-hogs were passed by for a new centre of
attention as Little Britain took nothing home (for a change) and
Extras, even with two category nominations, missed out too. However,
Ricky Gervais stated earlier that he wouldn't be upset if he missed out as he had ulterior motives to being
there.
At least there was some element of normalcy when Catherine Tate got nothing
again.
Separating the wheat from the chaff, the winners were:
Best Entertainment Performance: Jonathan Ross for Friday
Night With Jonathan Ross. Also nominated was Jack Dee for his Live
at the Apollo shows.
Best Comedy Performance: Chris Langham for The Thick Of
It. He beat off fellow star Peter Capaldi, Extras' Ashley Jensen
and Catherine Tate.
Best Situation Comedy: The Thick Of It snapped up
their second award. The near-misses were Extras, Peep Show and
The Worst Week Of My Life.
Best Comedy Programme or Series: Chris Langham received yet
another nod of appreciation along with Paul Whitehouse and the rest of the
Help cast. They beat The Catherine Tate Show, Creature
Comforts and Little Britain.
On an aside, Have I Got News For You missed out on the Lew
Grade Award For Entertainment Programme to The X-Factor.
The full list of winners can be found at http://www.bafta.co.uk/site/page129.html and
is being shown on ITV1 tonight at 21:00.
