Sci-fi animated comedy Futurama is to return to the small screen, with Comedy
Central paying for thirteen new episodes. However, you'll have to wait until
2008 to see them.
The show had been axed in August 2003, but with the success of the reruns and
good DVD sales, it has been decided to give it another try.
Comedy Central Dave Bernat told Variety "There is a deep and passionate fan
base for this intelligent and very funny show that matches perfectly with our
audience. It is great that we can offer them not just the existing library but
something they've never seen as well."
Re-starting animated shows seems to be a bit of a theme at the moment. Both
Family Guy and King of the Hill are to have new episodes made after a pause.
This does of course put some pressure on all the fans who made such a noise
on the Internet wanting the shows back. It also follows the financial failure of
the Serenity movie, which was made following a fan-led wave of pressure, but
didn't actually make a profit in the cinemas.
The key is to actually go and watch the things when they've been made,
people, not just complain when they're not there.
