The BBC today continued with it's attempt to patronise ethnic minorities in Britain with it's programming policies.  Following the television advertisment in which the BBC apparently promoted it's new "1Xtra" Radio Station by portraying black people as carjackers and mobile-phone muggers on a North-London housing estate, they are launching a new all-black BBC Sitcom (presumably on the assumption that people with other skin colours just don't get Fawlty Towers or The Office.)

In America, where total ethnic segregation within television comedy productions is unfortunately all to often the norm, all-black sitcom shows are produced in huge numbers, dating right back to the 1970's when The Cosby Show was launched.

The new show, called The Crouches will feature a family taking part in a "Humorous take on the trials and tribulation of a family living in Walworth", according to a BBC spokesperson. 

The show was commissioned by BBC1 controller Lorraine Heggessey, who said " This vibrant comedy will showcase the talents of some of Britains best black actors".  The 30 minute comedy will begin in September in the 10:30pm slot.
