Two Premiership players are to appear in the new BBC Comedy show Trevor's
World of Sport. Graeme Le Saux (Southampton, former England player) and Robbie
Keane (Tottenham Hotspur, current Ireland international) are to appear in the
third episode on Friday 29th of August.
Le Saux says he enjoyed his first taste of acting: "It was the first time I'd
done something like this. It was totally different from being on a football
pitch... and you never know, it might be a new career for me! It was a great
experience working with Neil Pearson and the rest of the cast. I'd love to do
more acting in future."
Robbie Keane, who is also famous for his cartwheeling goal celebrations, said
"I had a great time during the time I was on set. It was a completely different
experience for me and one I'd like to repeat at some stage. I didn't exactly
have many lines compared to the real actors. I thought I did OK but I don't
expect EastEnders to be ringing me for a cameo!"
The two players appear as themselves, and the script calls for them to turn
up at a dinner party hosted by the titular Trevor (played by Neil Pearson). But
it's his business partner Sammy Dobbs (Paul Reynolds) that gives them more than
they bargained for as he tries to poach them from their agents. As they say,
much hilarity ensues.
Funny.co.uk hopes that neither player has cause to look back on this with
some regret, as, with the exception of Vinny Jones, former footballers haven't
really had the best of luck on TV outside of the game. However, both players are
regarded as towards the more intelligent end of the footballing spectrum (Le
Saux reputedly reads the Guardian, for which he has taken much flak from his
teammates), and so we're hopeful that they won't make utter idiots of themselves
- unless the script demands it, of course.
