Harry Shearer, best known for being playing Derek Smalls in Spinal Tap and,
of course, being the voice of Mr Burns (amongst a large list of others) on The
Simpsons, is to star in a new BBC Radio Four comedy Not Today Thank You.
Brian Hayes, a well known UK Phone-In Presenter plays Brian Hughes, a
preesing, washed up radio presenter. He ends up trying to present a radio show
from his grandmother's house by broadcasting it from the basement. Shearer plays
one of the house's other tennants - a man called Nostrils who has persuaded
himself that he is so ugly he cannot bear to be seen by anyone - not even
himself.
Shearer said "Having grown up listening to the Goons, Hancock and many of teh
seminal Radio Four comedy projects in the years since, I'm honoured to be doing
a BBC comedy. I hope it means I get to be Steve Coogan when I grow up!"
The cast also includes Sheridan Smith (from Two Pints of Lager and a Packet
of Crisps) and Mark Perry (Dead Ringers).
Not Today Thank You will be recording in front of a live audience at the
Drill Hall in London from mid-July.
