After being open for less than a year, the Comedy Store in Leeds has
closed. The venue was only opened last November, and was expected to be
the first of a series of franchised venues to bring one of the UK's leading live
comedy brands to major towns and cities outside of London.
The failure of the venue is being put down to a lack of other attractions in
the Merrion Centre area to lure punters, along with an over ambitious size for
the club.
Owner Don Ward said: "The demand for comedy is undoubtedly very robust, but
the site was just too large to support The Comedy Store. And with a relatively
short lease in place, it was decided to call a halt on the pilot. It has
demonstrated a number of key lessons. We have solicited customer feedback and
will take their views on board."
The Comedy Store still retains it's highly acclaimed live comedy venues in
both London and Machester.
