Top Irish comedian and award-winning regular at the Fringe, Dara O
Briain, will be presenting this year's coveted Dubble Act Award on Saturday 21st
August.
Following its inaugural success at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe, the Dubble
Act Award for comedy duos will once again be hosted by Mervyn Stutter at his
legendary ‘Pick of the Fringe’ review. In collaboration with Dubble, the
Fairtrade chocolate brand (the crunchy bar with added Comic Relief), the prize
is for the best comedy double act at the Fringe. This year, as well as the
outrageous Dubble Act Trophy, there will be a money prize of £500 for the
winners too. Last year’s winners, ‘Laurence and Gus’, have gone on to
secure a comedy series on Radio 4.
“We are delighted that Dara O Briain will be handing over the Dubble Act
Award this year,” says Charlotte Borger of Day Chocolate, the company behind
Dubble Fairtrade chocolate. “If he was a double act, we’d probably be
giving it to him!”
“Dubble has always had fantastic support from comedians. Our mission to
introduce the UK to fantastic Fairtrade chocolate has been championed by
personalities such as Ben Elton, Jo Brand, Tony Robinson, Jennifer Saunders and
Graham Norton. With the Dubble Act Award, it’s great to be able to give
something back to comedy.”
“I’m delighted to be involved in any award in which the winners will always
earn half as much as the rest of us – young double acts.” says O Briain. “See
them now, before they start wanting to kill each other!”
The award ceremony (which promises lots of chocolate available for all
involved), will take place at Mervyn Stutter’s Pick of the Fringe at 1.00pm, The
Metro Gilded Balloon, Teviot Row on Saturday 21st August.
