Jonglueurs Comedy Club has carried out a poll of 10,000 people to find
Britain's Favourite Comic - and northerner Peter Kay has come out on top.
Jongleurs spokesman Chris Lambert said their audiences are of a very wide age
range, adding that modern comic acts are of a very high calibre.
Tommy Cooper was the only older famous name, appearing on the list at number
11.
Perhaps the most surprising omission is that of Matt Lucas and David Walliams
- the creators of Little Britain. The top ten is below.
1 Peter Kay
2 Billy Connolly
3 Lee Evans
4 Ricky Gervais
5 Eddie Izzard
6 Jack Dee
7 Roy Chubby Brown
8 Graham Norton
9 Jo Brand
10 Jimmy Carr
As with all polls, the idea is to stimulate well reasoned debate
and conversation, but the glaring awfulness of seeing Roy Chubby Brown in that
list prevents from doing anything but wanting to spit, to be
honest.
