Welsh stand-up Rhod Gilbert fought off the competition to win the National
Talent Hunt 2003, the "grand finale" of the 2003 York Comedy Festival.
The six acts, who reached the final from the five heats
throughout the week long festival, all did brilliantly, but Gilbert took home
the title along with a cheque for £750 and the clear approval of the crowd. The
close-fought battle for the second place "runner-up" position was won by Kerry Godliman
.
A cross section of the comedy industry were on the judging panel, including
judges from the BBC, Mirth Control Comedy Clubs, the Yorkshire Evening Post, the
York Comedy Festival, Funny.co.uk (yours truly), and comedian and Red Dwarf star
Norman Lovett, who, incidentally, also did a great job of compering the
evening despite a minor problem with names. ;o)

A big well done to all the acts involved. Look out for them in the very
near future!
