Reports are suggesting that Lee Evans is under consideration for the much
anticipated West End version of hit Broadway show "The Producers." The play is
based on the Mel Brooks film, and has been a huge sucess on Broadway at a time
when some shows are struggling. It focuses on two producers who invent an
ingenious money-making scheme that relies on creating the worst musical
possible, and are then confounded when it proves to be a huge success. The show
includes some fantastic songs, including the ever-hilarious "Springtime For
Hitler".
We've heard that originally the two Broadway leads, Nathan Lane and Matthew
Broderick, were expecting to transfer over here, but that is no longer
happening, the production company preferring to cast British talent instead.
Personally, I'm glad to hear it. We've got more than enough actors capable of
performing the role in this country, and Lee Evans is a big enough draw to help
the show along.
A formal announcement is expected by Christmas.
