Wood To Adapt Acorn Antiques

Comedian Victoria Wood is set to rework her popular 80's series of sketches, Acorn Antiques, for a musical version that could go all the way to the West End.

"I've always wanted to write a musical and I couldn't resist the collision of song, dance and Mrs Overall," she said.

Wood has written a first draft of the story, and hopes that the show will be onstage within a year. She also intends to reunite as many of the original cast as possible, including Julie Walters and Duncan Preston, but she does admit that it is a case of "diaries and hips permitting".

We can only hope that she retains the charm the original, which strayed just on the right side of deliberately bad. More news as and when we get it, of course.
