Following on from it's recent award wins, the Broadway musical Spamalot has
now been nominated for 14 Tony's.
The Tony's are the biggest award for the American stage, and with Spamalot
leading the list of nominations (including nods for Hank Azaria and Tim Curry)
it's a show that will no doubt go down in Broadway legend.
Dame Edna Everage and Whoopi Goldberg have also been nominated for awards for
their roles in other shows.
Spamalot, which has been fully endorsed by the surviving Pythons, is largely
based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail but also contains some new material and
some songs, such as Always Look On The Bright Side of Life, taken from other
Python films. John Cleese provides the Voice of God.
It has been nominated for best musical, best original score, best direction
of a musical and best choreography. Curry and Azaria are both nominated for Best
Leading Actor in a Musical, with another three cast members also nominated.
Barry Humphries has been nominated for Dame Edna: Back with a Vengeance! and
Whoopi Goldberg has been nominated for Whoopi: The 20th Anniversary Show. These
nominations are in the Best Special Theatrical Event
category.
