Jerry Springer the Opera, in continued defiance of the Christian Right, is to
go back on tour starting at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth on the 27th
January.
Rolf Saxon will be playing the lead role of Jerry, following in the footsteps
of David Soul and Michael Brandon.
The opera began life at the Battersea Arts Centre in 2001, before going on to
the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2002 where it had a sell out run. In 2003 it
transferred to the National Theatre before going on to make 609
performances.
With the BBC2 performance attracting widespread criticism (often from people
who hadn't actually seen the performance or indeed, made any effort to
understand it), we're quite glad to see that it's back up on it's feet. Anything
that makes so many people so annoyed must be doing something
right.
