Eric Idle has announced that Spamalot, the Monty Python musical
'lovingly ripped off from Monty Python and the Holy Grail', is to be on show in
London's West End at the Palace theatre from this autumn, with tickets going on
sale now.
The musical, starring Tim Curry in his first West End theatre role for twenty
years, broadly retells the quest of King Arthur's Knights as they go in search
of the Holy Grail.
Idle said he had to get full permission of the other surviving Pythons before
being allowed to put it on but "One song in particular got them all rolling on
the floor laughing and so after that it was fine".
The show has done astonishingly well in the States, winning multiple awards
and now going out on a full-scale tour, with dates sold out already. The British
show, I'm sure, will be every bit as good.
