is set to tour
the UK. The play has been a hit so far in four countries and is also being made
into a film. It is a mix of comedy, some autobiography of Bennet himself (he can
be seen in at least two of the characters) and reflection upon life and growing
up.
It has been shown at the National Theatre on London's South Bank for two
incredibly sucessful seasons, has toured out to Hong Kong, New Zealand and
Australia and had a long season on Broadway in New York.
Unfortunately, the role of maverick teacher Hector, created by Richard
Griffiths, will be taken by Anton Rodgers. Not to dismiss the talents of Mr
Rodgers, but Richard Griffiths is most assuredly a one-off and will be difficult
to replace.
The show has won numerous awards, including six Tonys on Broadway (including
Best Play and Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play) and the Olivier,
Evening Standard and Critics Circle awards for Best New
Play.
