As you probably know by now, the trailers that have been running for the new
Channel 4 series 'Lapdance Island' were a hoax. It's probably just as
well. If the quality of television programmes in Britain had actually
slipped so low that shows like that were being made, then I probably would have
sealed my TV in concrete and started reading books again instead. True,
the show appeared to feature women with an apparently very minimal clothing
budget, but to be honest if shows like that are your best source of scantily
clad women then you are probably using your ADSL line incorrectly.
The spoof trailer was actually a promotion for the new E4 comedy
series: The Pilot Show. The show features members of the public and
celebrities being duped into taking part in wacky recordings of fake television
programmes. One unsuspecting member of the public was tricked into taking
part in a programme called 'Spaceman', which promised to send a lucky contestant
to the moon, while in another episode Toyah Wilcox and former Vets in Practice
star Trude Mostue are fooled into taking part in running a Celebrity Advice
Bureau.
But it seems that not all celebrities are playing ball. England goalkeeper
David Seaman (yes, the 'Playing Ball' pun was NOT accidental!) was duped
into taking part in recording a show called 'Seaman & Garfunkal', in which
he would be filmed running a branch of Garfunkal's restaurants. Comic
actor Marc Wooton posed as a broadcaster supposedly interested in
making the reality show with the goalie.
However, when Seaman discovered it was a hoax, he refused to allow any of the
footage to be broadcast. Not very sporting of him. (Yes, another
sports pun!, it doesn't get much better than this!). It seems that
Seaman's main concern was that his family were also caught up in the
filming.
The Pilot Show starts on Monday the 8th Sepetember on E4. E4 is a
subscription channel available to Satellite,
Cable and Digital viewers, and in some strong-signal areas by gaffer-taping a
monkey to a broom.
