Ever since the comedians of Monty Python, arguably the best comedy team ever
to grace our screens, split up (or at least stopped recording) in the 1980's,
loyal Python fans have been longing for the day that they would be back on our
screens. In the mean time the fans have kept themselves busy by repeating
the 'dead parrott sketch' or 'the knights that say nee' in pubs up and down the
country -a little to often for some peoples liking - possibly just to fill in
some spare time.
But John Cleese has now confirmed that he hasn't actually met with either
Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Eric Idle or Terry Gilliam for at least 4 years. He
does however say that they are still on friendly terms.
Cleese dashed unconfirmed rumours that they were planning a forthcoming
Python Re-union tour, saying "It is absolutely impossible to get even a majority
of us together in a room, and I'm not joking.
We had all sorts of thoughts
about doing a final stage tour. And then Michael, who is painfully nice, who
finds it impossible to say 'No', finally summoned up the courage to say 'No', at
which point Eric became very cross about it."
So for now I guess we'll just have to be content watching our DVDs of The
Holy Grail or Life of Brian until they wear out, or we spill ketchup on them
(whichever is sooner).
