Veteran comedian Bob Monkhouse last night lost a two year battle with
prostate and bone cancer. He died peacefully in his sleep at his home in
Bedfordshire, with his wife Jackie at his side.
"I'll never stop working", Monkhouse had once said, "I want to die in the
saddle. A day is wasted for me if I haven't done something even mildly
creative."
With an implant in his stomach and a daily pill, forming part of his cancer
treatment, he achieved this and was still working as little as six weeks
ago.
"He's one of the bravest men I've met. He suffered very badly at times
with it but he carried on." said Peter Prichard, Bob's manager of 38 years, "He
was a total professional and one of the funniest men in the
world."
