Ricky
Gervais has admitted that he is shocked that The
Office won two Golden
Globe awards in Los Angeles last night. The Sitcom, that Gervais co-wrote
with Stephen Merchent, is the first British show to win either Best TV Comedy or
Best Comedy Actor.
The
Office was screened on small cable network 'BBC America', and had viewing
figures that numbered in the thousands rather than the millions. But
despite the fact that most Americans will never have seen The
Office
, the panel
of judges still chose it over Will & Grace and Sex & the City.
Collecting his award, Ricky
Gervais joked: "I'm not from these parts... I'm
from a little place called England. We used to run the world before you."
Then, when he collected his second award of the night he added: "Two
bookends. Excellent. You need the set."
Speaking about the awards, Gervais said
that he felt like a tourist at the ceremony, seeing all the stars and the
sights. The
Office
is currently
being remade by NBC for the American audiences.
