Neil
Morrisey and business partner, Matt Roberts, bought Dylan Thomas’s local pub
last night. The Brown's Hotel in Laugharne,Wales, is
reputed to be where Thomas met many characters that inspired him to write Under Milk Wood.
Hundreds of people showed up to
hopefully catch a glimpse of the reported celebrities who were interested.
Morrisey couldn’t be there in person because he was recording his voice for Bob The Builder. Rumours were abound
that Mick Jagger and Pierce Brosnan were interested but also never showed.
The auction, scheduled for
7.30pm, commenced with the starting
price of £35,000; it lasted 10 minutes and sold for £670,000.
This is the third pub Morrisey
and Roberts have purchased in the area and are due to take over in June. They
also own the Three Mariner's Inn and Hurst House Hotel
from the nearby village of
Pendine.
Although they have stated that
they do not plan to do much renovation but the grade II listed pub does have the
potential to convert four private flats back into the 23 roomed hotel it was 50
years ago.
